Children's programs, old and new!

New Programs for kids!

The new Lego Club, meets the second Wednesday of every month at 3:00 pm, will be meeting again on December 8th. For ages 5 and up. Lots of fun and creativity going on!

Reading Fur Fun - Dog Tales - Kids get to read to a registered therapy dog named Shirley. The relaxed atmosphere helps kids improve their reading skills. Meets the third Tuesday of every month, at 4:00pm. Shirley will be back on Tuesday, December 21st. I love this program, Shirley is perfectly behaved and very sweet!

Homework Help for grades K thru 5. Our teen volunteers are here every other Wednesday at 3:00 pm to help the grade school kids with their homework. This is not tutoring, just a help with their homework or reading. Our next Homework Help is Wednesday, December 1st. And that will be the only Homework Help in December, we start up again after the first of the year, Wednesday, January 5th at 3pm.

We of course still have our storytimes for Toddlers on Tuesdays at 10:00am and  for Pre-schoolers on Thursdays also at 10:00am.

And that is it for a quick rundown of the Children's Department new programs!

Happy Holidays to you all!

Miss Heidi

eBook Readers - What to buy?

Patrons frequently ask for information on buying an eBook reader and also if certain readers are compatible with our free downloadable eBooks from OverDrive.

To help you get started, here is a list of all eBook readers that are compatible with OverDrive's eBooks as well as ones that are known to be incompatible. Check back when you are ready to make a purchase, this page is updated as new devices are tested.

If you are interested in a device that is not mentioned, keep in mind that OverDrive's eBook files are in DRM-protected Adobe® EPUB & PDF file formats. All eBook readers will list what file types they support in their documentation.

Remember, most computers are compatible with eBooks, so if you would feel comfortable reading books on your laptop or netbook that is another possibility!

Here are some links to help you decide which eBook reader you would enjoy the most:

Dear Jane: What eBook Reader Should I Buy? (May 16, 2010) has a list of questions you can ask yourself to determine your needs and which eBook reader may best meet them.

PC Magazine's How to buy an eBook Roundup (July 14, 2010) contains all of the magazine's reviews of eBook readers.

MobileRead.com hosts a blog, wiki and message boards all dedicated to the discussion of eBook readers. Start by looking at the Which One Should I Buy? section of their message board.
