We've been fortunate to host volunteer Susan Woodman and her therapy dog Shirley at our Reading Fur Fun sessions for almost a year now. Recently, dog and handler were featured in the latest edition of Destinations magazine! You can view the article about their work with local schools here.Shirley is a certified and insured therapy dog and is here the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. Children ages 5 and older read stories aloud to her so they gain confidence in reading. They also have fun doing it, as Shirley is a very patient and supportive audience!

Reading sessions are scheduled on a first come first served basis. This program is not recommended for children who are afraid of dogs or for anyone who is allergic to dogs. Feel free to call our Children's Department at 813-749-1179 with any questions.
